Honor what you've done.
As mothers, our dedication knows no bounds. From the moment we learn we're expecting, our lives revolve around ensuring the well-being of our children. Every subtle change is scrutinized, our intuition sharpened. When Ikea approached me for a photo session, her story resonated deeply.
She, like many mothers, faced the challenges of breastfeeding head-on. The initial optimism gave way to questions and doubts. But through perseverance, Ikea and baby Marli forged a strong breastfeeding relationship, a testament to their commitment.
Why document this journey? Because Ikea wanted to honor her dedication to breastfeeding. Having experienced similar struggles myself, I understood the significance. At 3 months postpartum, I made the decision to stop trying to force a traditional breastfeeding relationship and opted to exclusively pump for the remaining 9 months. I spent most of that year mourning the loss of having that connection with my daughter Eva and working hard to maintain my supply. ANY mother who finds themselves wondering “why does this seem harder than I thought it would?” … I get you.
For mothers grappling with unexpected challenges, know that you're not alone. It's okay to mourn the deviations from your envisioned path. It’s hard to accept that your journey looks differently than you thought, hoped, and dreamed it would. This photo session is a tribute to resilience, a celebration of the unique journey each mother embarks on.
Beyond capturing images, it's about commemorating your strength and sacrifices—the essence of motherhood encapsulated in a single moment.
It’s more than a photo shoot.
It’s a sacred memorial of who you are.
